Speculation is wild at the moment, but I think there are 3 groups emerging:
1) Expected: Pascal Werhlein
2) Possibly: Valoteri Bottas (Toto manages him) Jenson Button - although I think he likes triathlons more Filippe Massa - I think he'd come back more than Jenson
3) Outsiders: JP Montoya - its a top drive so he could be convinced Anthony Davidson - He is Mercedes best and consistent simulator driver, I am well informed on this point! and is used to driving 1000bhp monsters as he was the 2014 WEC champion with Toyota.
Personally I cannot see Alonso or Vettel being bought out of their contracts as it would require a colossal ammount
Also I think Bernie will get involved for sure, as South america is F1's biggest audience, and with Massa retiring he has no south-american drivers worth their salt, so dont be surprised to see Massa or Montoya nick it
Although Montoya looked a bit porky last time I see him do the podium interviews, so he will need to tone up, but could you imagine Montoyas return.......it would be colossal for the sport, not to mention sell a lot on Mercedes in south-america
