Robbing a bank but only managing to steal £10 is the same as robbing a bank and managing to steal £10m. To suggest otherwise is emotive, which should have no place in law.
Mugging an old lady and escaping with nothing is the same as mugging an old lady and escaping with £1,000. To suggest otherwise is emotive, which should have no place in law.
Another example. One old lady on her way home from Bingo, one mugger. The mugger has no way of knowing how much the old lady won on the Bingo. She won either:
A £1 B £10 C £100 D £1,000
In which case would the crime be worse? My argument would be that, irrespective of how much the old lady won on the bingo, the crime is exactly the same in each case and should be tried as such.
