it is perfectly possible that an asteroid could hit America and the rest of the world would survive the impact. However if an asteroid did hit America then there is a possibility that some of the 104 nuclear reators they have will fail and release high doses of radiation into the atmosphere. This would then head our way collecting water vapour on the way as it crosses the Atlantic and then fall as rain on us and the rest of Europe contaminating our remaining food crops with high doses of radiation.

Therefor we as human beings would have added a very bad man made disaster to an already very bad natural disaster which wouldn't be a nice legacy to leave our future children.

I think everyone sees nuclear power as an easy cheap option when we should be pushing and trying much harder to implement greener alternatives.

Nuclear power might be better than fossil fuels in terms of the overall safety record but the reality is that it will not reduce the current levels of use of fossil fuels.

I think we should be trying harder to look after our future with clean fuels.
