I am sure some of you have been following the "tour" again this year.. ( more crashes than Rotax club races !) and may be aware of the allegation of "doped bikes" !!
for those that have missed it, there have been insinuations of hidden motor assistance and the organisers have been forced to Xray bikes to check for concealed power units !.... so there must be some substance to the allegations.
For the tech minded, this is one of the power units alleged to have been used over the past few years.
http://www.gruberassist.com/english/product/technology/

watch the youtube clip also.

To me , i find it strange that anyone would go to the trouble of developing a deliberately concealed drive system for a bike unless it was intended to be used to "cheat" in competition.
There are several more powerful, high duration, cheaper Electrodrive systems available for bikes.
The Gruber unit is too limited (by its concealed size constraints) in power and duration to be of practical use for recreational cyclists.
And its cost is prohibitive.
But as a piece of technology it is very impressive !! Wink
