But Ian.......the one point you miss is that NO ONE is forced into taking part in the TT.......all the participants LOVE it......despite the obvious dangers.
Let`s move into a totally different scenario.....our troops in Afghanistan! (or any other war zone), I`m not quoting figures, but we have lost a lot of troops.........sent to their deaths, you would say, correct........or, hang on.....
Rather like TT racers, it is their career choice, and, like the riders, if you asked most of those troops out there, they will tell you that they love their job, and are proud to be doing it......(some sort of thread appearing here), despite the clear and obvious dangers facing them every day..........but it is their career choice.
Most racing HAS been sanitised now, is it for the best?, well, I will leave others to decide that. All I do know is, that ALL racing was more exciting when I was younger, and that is BECAUSE the circuits were faster (in the wrong places, no doubt) and that, rightly or wrongly, led to exciting racing.......
Nowadays, (and this season is slightly an exception) F1 quite literally sends me to sleep, it is far too sterile.......TOO sanitised.
MotoGP probably has it just about right, still very exciting, but in a (relatively) safe environment.
The TT is very exciting too........but by it`s very nature, it can NEVER be in a safe environment.
Ian, this thread has been done before, and I am going to nip it in the bud now from my point of view..........we could to and fro here for days, I have VERY fixed views on the TT which are NOT going to change...........you have your own views, which, as always, I completely respect, but......
let`s just have a straw poll amongst forum members with an interest either way.........
"Should the Manx TT be banned?"
