1/ A decent van in my eyes was something from 02 onwards, with already 100k ont clock, ex fleet, contract hire type of thing, didnt want a £500 MOT dodger, in my employed life i was always given a company van and i always respected it and looked after it, a nice clean, signwritten van gives a good first impression IMO.
2/ Training, well the thing is itpro the courses are already in place to serve people like me , their already factored into the budget, it just seems the joke centre are reluctant to spend the money, like its theirs.
I mentioned the plastering course not because i wanted a career change but to broaden my scope, alot of joinery jobs i saw were for multi-skilled joiners, a classic one i rang about wanted a joiner who could plaster patch/repair, had basic plumbing experience, basic electrical, and tiling experience. Heres a job i cant apply for because i've never plastered but if someone showed me on a weeks course for instance then brill, same for electrical and plumbing. Im not after handouts and to be honest now that im working i will pay to go on what they call a handy mans course, looked on 'hot course's' site already. 12 years ago while working i paid for a 12 week long locksmiths course myself, that got me 2 jobs in the past and its still seving me well now.
