Following the death of the sixth "Gary Boy" (modded up Saxo-esque driving clown to you oldiers) in my small town since the start of this year, I have been pondering what it is going to take to get young people to stop driving like c0cks in this country.

I'm a young driver myself, getting absolutely battered on car insurance because of these idiots. And I've been giving this some thought, and drawn up some ideas.

* I think new drivers (under three years driving) should be restricted (in a similar way to motorcylists) to nothing more than a 1.2 litre, and insurance should be capped at £800. Doesn't matter where you go for insurance, its no more than that.

* If you commit a regular, 3 point traffic offence, YOUR car insurance goes up £200.

* If you are stupid enough to rack up nine points in under three years (bearing in mind 6 points in under two leaves you with your licence revoked), your insurance goes up £500.

* Commit a traffic offence that would secure you six points in one hit, driving a "modified" vehicle, your car is towed and crushed.

* Clock up twelve points in under three years, car is crushed.

* Driving without insurance / licence / tax in first three years, car is crushed.

I think these idiots should be PRICED OUT OF DRIVING!! If they start driving parents cars illegally (which I know of quite a few people doing with no insurance), THE PARENTS CAR SHOULD BE CRUSHED TOO!!!! What a shock that would be!!

This sounds draconian, but I think this is what its going to take to get the message to these drongos!!

EXAMPLE: One lad I know used to drive an Orange Peugeot 106. Was speeding towards a roundabout in the wet, lost control, went over the top of a roundabout (and I mean one with a grass bank and garden feature!!) and rolled it, wrote off the car. Was given three points for dangerous driving. Month later, in his new vehicle, same stretch of road, was pulled doing 65mph going across the roundabout (limits 40)!!

Opinions??
