Uninstall and delete all of the drivers you've installed. Search the registry to ensure everything is gone from there too. Now, read the driver installation instructions as some devices require the driver to be installed before the hardware is plugged in and some after.

Also, try plugging the device into a different USB port. Some ports, particularly front mounted ones, don't always work with all devices.
