I think your missing the point. Obviously if it was going to make them quicker they would remove them. But it's not. Stupid thing to say.

Forgetting what I think is right or wrong they have to have advertising space to get money to be able to race. One of the most common shots is the car coming straight towards the camera. What is the problem with keeping the wings but reducing the effect they have. It will keep cars looking great, give space for the money to roll in and help with closer racing.
