Just been checking some statistics of Senior British Karting Champions (pre S1 which began in 1990)
In a 15 year spell between 1967 - 1981 (Johnny Herbert won it in 1982) the title was taken on no fewer than 11 occasions by two drivers, Micky Allen on 6 occasions, Terry Fullerton on 5, the four to break that monopoly being Stephen South in 1969, Chris Hales in 1970, (does anyone know if Allen and Fullerton competed in those two years?) Paul Burgess in 1974 and Alan Gates in 1981.
Clearly these two were virtually unstoppable during this period. My own memories are somewhat sketchy. I did see both drivers in their best days and, would probably have to say, I thought Allen was the better driver, marginally.........although Fullerton had the most amazing will to win.
Suppose they were the Litchfield and Catt of that era.
