A 2% reduction of car travel is HUGE David! Think how many cars are on the road. Are you complaining that it's not enough? Obviously reducing your milage by 10miles a week would be better...or even cutting it out entirely. Feel free to do that but the government however are being realistic...no one who is a bit agnostic about climate change will cut their mileage by that much at 1st, start with a 5mile cut a week...then go from there.
"You do know our target is to reduce emissions to a level 10% lower than those seen in 1990 (and scientists would say that doesn't come close to solving the problem) and that we're going to fail to meet this target despite our efforts already coming at great economic cost?"
Ok, if these efforts are not enough (which I'd agree, they're not) what else should the government do? We don't need airy fairy answers like large scale policy/projects...what do you want the government to ACTUALLY do.
There is no debate that these methods will reduce CO2, perhaps not as much as is needed...but until we find the genius solution to the CO2 problem, surely this is the best course of action?
