Nicky, I'm very sorry for causing you any offence by the use of my language. I was attacking your point rather than attacking you but I'm sorry if it came across any other way. It was not intended so.
Bullying in the workplace goes on all the time. Employers make unreasonable demands of their staff on occasion also. There's a very comprehensive legal structure in place in this country to protect employees under such situations and I've witnessed it at work on a number of occasions. That's the way it should be.
To have mob rule, in large companies [usually state run], that goes beyond what's required by law to protect employees is unacceptable. If the employment laws are insufficient... and if you feel it would be more helpful to do so, by all means create a lobby group to persuade our elected politicians to change them, but do not take matters into your own hands by refusing to work.
Another point - if every business in this country was unionized, and those unions and their members decided to behave the way the CWU are doing at the moment, we would have a significant percentage of the working population permanently on strike... and there would be a consequential breakdown in society. We a taste of that in the 1970s and it crippled Britain. So why should one group [i.e. postal workers] be allowed to behave like that while the rest of us are content to abide by normal laws of employment.
