Many of us will look at ebay to buy a used trailer. I should warn you about a very nasty experience where someone STOLE my money!
- The trailer was advertised on auction with 4ft4 internal loading space. - I phoned the guy before bidding and he confirmed the "internal loading space" as even slightly larger - I stressed the importance of this to him and explained that I was pleased about that as I would just about be able to roll the kart on without stripping wheels etc. This was a cruicial point for choosing that trailer.
- I won the auction at £318 - He wanted cash on delivery but asked for a £50 deposit on PayPal - I obliged as I was committed to the purchase. - Drove 2.5 hours to pick it found that due to the design of the metal panels and the tailgate posts it was more like 4ft and there is no way the kart would roll on with it's wheels still on. Hence no good to me. Also internal loading space of 4ft 4 is a complete mis-description. - Face to face he agreed to refund my deposit. - I chased this up over the next few days then he eventually replied saying he changed his mind and WON'T refund the £50 deposit as it was to cover his expenses (what expenses? £3 listing fee??? It's me that had to drive 5 hours in total and spent £35 on petrol) - He then tried to blame me saying I just changed my mind about buying it (of course I did because it was misdescribed). - PayPal are f*cking useless they don't protect you or help in any way when it comes to this sort of thing. - He then said you can still have the trailer if you want - I actually would like to do that because I could at least sell it on. - When I asked about picking it up he said it has to be within the next 2 days as it's on auction again!!!! I don’t have time to pick it up and based on his previous behaviour I don't think he'd really hand it over and I don’t really want to waste another 5 hours driving.
So he is already selling a trailer which I've put a deposit on! I know that legally he has crossed the line and I have emails confirming all of the above.
This does seem like a scam to get deposits out of people so be careful! Losing money was bad enough but driving from London to Wisbech, North Cambridgeshire only to be messed about is just not on!
Am I allowed to name the seller in this thread?
