Ian -you are having a great debate with Devon Hawker but I will risk disrupting that to take issue on a few points you made.

Our voters DESERVE Gordon Brown because a majority of them VOTED knowing that he would be our PM before the next election!!

I agree that we get what we deserve - up to a point but would dispute your statement `the majority of them voted', At the last election only 61% bothered to vote (yes a majority) so the other 39% don't really have a case for complaint. BUT of those who did vote only 37% wanted Gordon and his merry band - the other 63% wanted someone else - THE MAJORITY LOST!

You say that the pay for MPs is ridiculously low but also state "For every post, there are about TWO THOUSAND POTENTIAL APPLICANTS, so the competition is pretty damned HIGH". if the pay is that bad why so many wanting the job?

VERY little 'redundancy'? They get a minimum of 50% of a year's salary which is pretty good after 5 years (maybe less) and compares very well to what most people would get.

Their contract of employment is also quite loose. many of them have second jobs that they seem to manage to do while parliament is `in session' - do they actually have to attend at all. Certainly in the case of Jerry Adams & co they do not have to attend at all.

It is not all bad.
