If the law was changed to a blanket 10mph speed limit, then of course we would have to adhere to it just as we do the current limits. The point is, though, that even though it would save 3500 lives a year, such a limit will never be imposed, because the saving in lives is not worth all the problems that such a limit would cause. The speed limits are a balance between lives and practicalities and we each have our own opinion as to where that balance best lies. It would seem from this latest speed limit reduction, that parliament considers around 2750 per year to be acceptable.
Until such time as I see the police monitoring (without just cause) every passing pedestrian for weapons/drugs, I will continue to view such monitoring (without just cause) of motorists as persecution.
