How right you are with many of your comments, unfortunately this has been the way of soldiers for hundreds if not thousands of years, as a former soldier I can confirm, we don't always agree with what we are told to do or the results of carrying out these orders.
And the kit issue problem is not a new one, even in the late 70's through the 80's,at some of the worst times of the Cold War and into the 90's and 2000 and beyond we were woefully kitted out compared to many European and US troops.
My brother in law and his lads are in Afghanistan at the moment and in recent weeks as a Battalion have suffered some of the worst losses in recent years,1st Rifles, 3 in one attack last week, history dictates anyone in Afghanistan will have a hell of a job on their hands, look at 20 years + by the might of the Soviet Forces for recent proof of that.
Get the troops out,use the technology we have, Satelite, Unmanned reccy aircraft, etc to identify Heroin poppy fields and Taliban camps, send in the "sneaky beaky soldiers" SAS + SBS Troops trained for that Theatre of War,believe me I assure you they blend better than Arabs and Afghans themselves at times, if neccessary to make sure they are Taliban and to acquire target and call in the firepower as and when needed.
The operations being carried out in many areas can be done without any British troops in place at all, let's use the equipment that millions has been spent developing and get the guys out, before we lose too many more. In my opinion one more is too many.
