incident 49 Spa The McLaren was judged that to have 'cut the chicane and gaining an advantage' by overtaking Kimi into the next corner - which is and was deamed to be against the rules of fair play and safety. There is no appeal against a 'stop go'. **Without Bias** - its as simple as that. The Penalty is a stop go - or add 25 seconds to your race time if there was not enough time for a stop go to be done. This is just one small incident in one race - let alone a season or 50 years. The officals are there to judge and see that fair play is done - otherwise if you leave it to the drivers - their parents or Lewis fans all hell will break loose!!! ;-) The sport can be dificult to understand sometimes if you are not used to it, but it does work and as upset a few fans are - it was the right call. If the president was set that it was OK to gain even a small advantage at a chicane in such a manner, it would alter what a driver can do to achieve an overtaking move if a similar situation occurred. Thus negating a 'safe' chicane and leading to the pointless erection of a tyre wall. The run off areas can be used in certain circumstances - however a chicane generally has that specific rule and understanding in all classes of car racing. I understand if youre a Lewis groupie that you'll be upset, as I would be if it'd happened to Damon Hill (Damon Groupie) as he doesnt race F1 anymore ;-( I can try and offer my independant explanation unbiasly to all the Lewis Groupie - I hope this helps you understand a little more about F1 and racing. At least your guy will be in the next race - my guy for all we know, may or may not turn up in the next series of a well know BBC2 motoring program!! ;-)
