"No wonder the immigrants are "swarming" here lealets from the Benefits System for foriegners on how to claim when arriving in UK are being distributed in the camp at Calais and Kent is FULL ,Social Services cannot cope with all the children arriving, and they are having to "Hire" Police from neighbouring Forces.."
92.5% of benefits claimants are British, 5% are from outside the EU and 2.5% are from within the EU. Immigration is not the cause of our high welfare bill. Compared with other European countries, our welfare bill isn't even particularly high.
Funnily, we're not even top of the list of immigration levels for European countries. This perception that we're taking all the migrants and have the best benefits system is just plain wrong.
Migrants tend to migrate to the country of their old colonial masters (or just one that has had a military presence in their own country). You tend not to see Senegalese migrants in the UK, nor Kenyan migrants in France. There will always by a migratory pressure toward the wealthier nations; that's the (small) cost of living in one. The only way we'll stop it is by helping to improve conditions elsewhere in the world. Until that day comes, we have to take our fair share.
Specifically regarding the situation in Calais, this is exactly what happens when developed nations hold their hands up and say "not my problem". They should never have been able to congregate in Calais in the first place. Now we should be processing them in place (along with the other EU nations) with the proviso that if they are caught attempting to enter the UK illegally, their entry will be permanently denied.
