About 1 thousandth of the devastation cuased to the business and honest people of this country whom the Uninons had manage to take a tolerably prosperous country to a Basket Case!
Those who were not 'concious' (too young) can have ZERO concept of how bad things were back then. I'll give you two, personal, examples:-
1) My brother's sister in law and husband died in a car crash. It took the family 6 weeks to get them buried.... union intervention.
2) My father in law had a (mild) heart attack: he needed to get to hospital quickly but not a blue-lights job. No ambulances were running.... yet andother Union Dispute. I had to take a mattress off their spare bed and lay it in the back of our estate car and take him to hospital myself in that.
We were NOT the worst-hit family.
Margaret did many things for 'my' people, not least cutting the unions back to a more reasonable level....
I just have to say the name again.... 'Alan Fisher' ..... it's H*I*M you brought Margaret to the landlide victory...... and claimed that he hadn't at the next TUC Conference..... Thanks Alan: we will always owe you a debt of graititude!
