I think you need to download the live timing Chris because your memory is a little clouded. Button was 8 seconds from Hamilton at the end of lap one (due to starting 8 places behind) At the safety car he was 18 secs off(before he made his second stop), having had some slow and very slow laps behind slower cars. So that's about 10 seconds in 25 laps (in traffic). That said he was pretty much there when he had space. After the safety car yes he was again 5 seconds off Hamilton due to the position on track and was slower at the early part of the stint but this is common for Button. If Hamilton finished the race he would have been say 12-15 seconds ahead of Button.
That said, without taking the starting position into account (starting the timing from the end of lap 1) he was a maximum of 25 seconds slower over the race. Seeing as its a 57 lap race and he was in traffic for most of this, that doesn't quite account for 1 second per lap slower does it?
I'm not saying Button is better but lets get these things right when we can.
