Oh god.....
"hard acceleration only happens for a short period during a 0-60 test"
..'only happen..... during a 0-60 test'
I see.... so.... hard acceleration ONLY happens in the 0-60 test?
That would suggest it (the effect of the Close Catio gearbox on fuel consumption) doesn't happen between 25mph to 80mph acceleration....?
Nor between 60mph to 100mph...?
Nor at EVERY OTHER moment of acceleration throughout the car's use, all day/week/month/year....? Not MANY of us drive our Elises from 0-60mph and then STOP for the rest of the day, Paul!
And of course, driving a car in lower gears (as you need to do in towns) with a car with a Close-ratio (CR) gearbox DOESN'T mean that you are using more revs and this DOESN'T mean you use more fuel (on average) than with a high-ratio (HR) gearbox....?
And of course, driving at HIGHER speeds with a CR gearbox DOESN'T mean that you are cruising with higher revs and thus more fuel consumption than you would with a LR gearbox....?
So really...... as far as YOU are concerned the CR gearbox ONLY affects the fuel consumption when doing a 0-60mph 'drag'..... I see..... I hardly know how to hold back the laughter....
A man with even a MICROSCOPIC knowledge of engines would realise that it EVEN has an effect (on fuel consumption) when a CR-boxed engine is on OVER-RUN (unless the engine uses full 'fuel-shut-off' in that phase and the Elise .... DOESN'T.... it's why they can spit FLAME on over-run with a short or leaky exhaust!)!
Paul..... do you know ANYTHING about engines AT ALL?
Clearly, the answer to that is ..... NO!
