Easy....

Were have been 'told' that the energy stored and 're-cycled' by KERS was effectively gained from the braking cycle.... i.e., potential energy that had been transferred from the fuel to kenitic energy being 'harvested' back into potential energy in the 'batteries' during braking. I long doubted that was happening. It now seems to be only generated DURING the braking cycle, not FROM the braking cycle!

It now seems that some teams are using the energy from additional fuel being used by the motor while the drive is (effectively) disconnected to run an 'generator' to power the 'batterries'. That appears to be 'legal' but not really in the spirit of 'green' F1.

In addition to that, certain teams are using the extra fuel being injected into the hot exhausts as an 'after burner' to generate air flow over the Diffusers. That was notably banned during the Turbo era when teams were running the Turbos as extra turbINES, injecting fuel into the 'upwind' part of the exhaust before the turbo to keep them spinning during overrun.

Ken Tyrrell pointed out that the Piston engine between the 'compressor' blades and the 'impellor' produced was acting more like a Jet Turbine than a Piston engine! Taken a fraction further and the car had become a the Lotus 56 'turbine car' with the 'engine' being only the way of harvesting the power of the Turbine!

But..... I digress.....

It is KNOWN to be against the rules to 'blow' the diffuser during over-run: hence Charlie attempting to Ban it. The Twist is that Charlie was thwarted from banning it immediately because of LUDICROUS claims that the teams didn't have time to change the 'map'.

That would be like me going to the grid with a 500cc motor in a TKM race and claiming that I CANNOT be DQd becasue I don't have time to re-fit a 115cc motor..... you'd not accept that and nor would ANY sane person...... However Charlie has only accepted it because 'politics' rules him.....

Obviously, if FIAt was making it work well..... Charlie would never DREAM of banning it...... but...... as FIAt can't make it work as well as RB....... things might change!

That looks like more than 2 'twists'!
