I haven't you said you are. You have yet to provide one reason not to have speed limits nor a reason why excess speed should not be discouraged, nor why it cannot be the sole determining factor in an accident. All you have said is "all these other things cause deaths" (well duh... we all know that) and "we should have better drivers" (well duh... we all want that). In fact, nobody here has said people die soley through speed. People die in road accidents for all sorts of reasons. We have however said that speed:

a) Increases the consequences of an accident
b) Increases the chances of an accident occuring
c) Can be the sole determining factor in an accident (i.e. the only thing someone could have done differently is to have reduced their speed)

And how would that prevent accidents? As you yourself have stated, it would only be used after an accident. A little bit late then don't you think? Granted, it would have some benefits in improving vehicle safety and potentially, over a long period of time, driver training (but only by showing the types of accidents that occur and how they could be avoided).

Your argument basically boils down to, "I'd prefer not to have speed limits but accept they currently need to exist, Ian (and others) shouldn't say excess speed kills or try to discourage excess speeding, we should have better drivers and we should only concentrate on dangerous driving.

Remember, excess speed is one factor of dangerous driving that has been singled out because:

a) It is easy to police
b) It plays a large part in reducing the chances of an accident
c) It plays a large part in reducing the consequences of an accident.

Why is this a bad thing?
