That point gets to me, too.
I live in a village where LOADS of people bought 4 wheel drives, not becasue they ever left the tarmac surface.... on purpose, at least..... but becasue they LOOKED 'cool'!
As winter approached, we'd wait for the first serious ice or snow and we could GUARANTEE that the NEW-to-4wd-car-drivers be in the hedge, ditch or wall as appropriate. They could feel that their new car was BETTER at accelerating on the ice than their old car..... and they never, for a single SECOND, thought that the BRAKING would STILL be as bad (if not worse) than their old-2wd car because, that TOO, had 4-wheel-brakes!
Our side road has about 30 houses, at one stage there was 11 Discoveries in that lane...... every single ONE 'visited the scenery' in their first year's ownership!
Now, the same people have bought Porsches (6 in our lane, now) so we are REALLY looking forward to THIS winter's first snow..... and so are all the car-repair garages!
Too much power, too little THOUGHT!
