A current Porsche 911 Carerra S about 20 DAYS ago..... is that recent enough? I'll add a nasty Boxter and a better Cayman in the last month, too!
In September, I drove a 3 series CSL, a Westie Megabusa, a PROPER Skyline, a Evo 9 and a 10, an Exige, Elise, MX5, Renault Clio V6, BMW 135 (m) and a handful of Jaguars.
Most of the above were considerably BETTER cars that the 911..... the Cayman wasn't TOO bad but still vastly overpiced.
So.... yes Kai..... I'll happily stick with the SACK OF SH** description which has fitted them, well, since the 1950s. They have never managed to cure the BASIC DESIGN ERRORS that they STOLE (careful and LEGITIMATE choice of words, there!) from the Czechs in the late 1930s and each of their attempts to 'diguise' the design faults have lead to worse problems being squeezed out to the skirting-boards!
All you have to do is go and DRIVE one quickly and you'll see the problems. Just treat it as a NORMAL car and don't make allowances for that damnned BADGE! Review it as though it DIDN';T say 'Posrche' on the bonnett!
The difficulty is that most drivers get into a 'Porsche' and insert rose tinted spectacles! They have heard how 'good' Porsches are and they will NOT bother to LOOK at the reality..... Out of interest, go and read last month's review of the CSL and the GT2 by Karcher in CAR. No other car would be TOLERATED by 'journalists' if they displayed the EVIL characteristics of the 911 GT2..... but.... becasue it says 'Porsche' on the bonnet..... it's called 'Character'! In a Toyota, Skoda, Merc..... it'd CONDEMNED as "unsafe at any speed" but, becasue it says' Porsche.......
Are you getting the suspicion that I LOATHE Porsche and all their works......?
Anyway, this thread is about the far superior Lotus family..... at least, WE never had to pay 'reparations' to anyone for stealing their blueprints..... Nor were we ever created and run by Nazi sympathisers and collaborateurs....
