Davy.....
The LAW requires you to reduce your speed when you arrive at a speed limit within a certain distance. Thus, the change in speed HAS to occur readsonably quickly.
Secondly, you keep forgetting the obvious... once you install systems which take over control of cars' speeds, then many people will simply drive with their foot FLAT to the floor letting the car travel at the MAXIMUM in all circumstances.... excatly like F1 drivers in the pit lane. The day the the 'system' FAILS to bring the car from 70 to 30 as required and the driver HURTLES into the back of a stationary skip lorry simply BECAUSE: "my car LET me do 70mph so I didn't KNOW that the limit had changed to 30mp" ..... will be the day that the manufacturer goes BANKRUPT!
Let's wait and see the SCALE of the claim made against Toyota for the supposedly "stuck throttles".... nice to know that Toyota don't fit ANY way of turning off the motor or that ANY Toyota doesn't have brakes that are more powerful than their engines....
To the best of my knowledge, NO truck on sale today has 'adaptive speed limiters'.
Finally..... YES, I do! (Not ME though..... yet!)
