But David.....
That's not how you REALLY feel, is it? Be honest.... Let's try an example..... I'll guess that before you were married (if you are) you slept with your girlfriend. When you went to friend's houses, that would cause no problems but.... when you went to her or your parents' houses, then you were more ..... circumspect. Certainly, that's how I behaved....
Similarly, if friends have different views about.... I don't know.... swearing inside their house... I am sure you respect their wishes in THEIR house.
Our morals weren't changing, it was my/our respect for the wishes of the various 'hosts' that altered my/our behaviour. That's normal, civilised, courteous behaviour.
In those example cases, geography DID/DOES make a difference.... and it SHOULD!
I would not DREAM of paying hommage to ANY 'god' as I simply do NOT believe in the concept that it is POSSIBLE for a god to be GOOD! However, if I walk into a Church and approach the Alter (when anyone else is there) I dutifully bow simply because it shows respect for the views of those in the Church. I would similarly remove my shoes when entering a Mosque and cover my head in an Orthodox Synagogue, etc., etc.. My views about the CONCEPT of a 'god' have NOT altered but it would be an insult to 'worshippers' to trample over their 'perceived trangressions'.
