Newshound, Martin Finnegan was killed in Tandragee, but its the same motorcycle road racing as the TT.
I completely appreciate everything you say about the dangers of motorsport - I've been involved in it one way or another for over 30 years. What I'm trying to get across is the sheer horrifying death rate in the sport of motor cycle road racing. No other form of motor sport even comes close. What would it take for society to say we can't allow this to continue, even if the riders want to ?
o A death in every race ? o A death on every lap ? o Several deaths on every lap ?
Would we allow Russian Roulette, with live bullets, to be a sport, even if the competitors themselves were happy to do it ?
As you just said, none of us expect to see a death at a motor racing event we attend these days and on the very rare occasions that it happens, we're all truely shocked and saddened. But the TT is not the same. We DO expect to see deaths, sometimes many, at every event. I'm very sorry, but for me that's a bloodsport and something I find grotesque.
