As I sit here looking our on the Elise I have for use this week, I wou;dn't agree there are NO sports car!
I agree, I don't use it for SPORT...... but then neither do Off-Roaders use their cars off-road, the Mini is now HUGE, the Skoda Superb isn't..... , BMWs are NOT the 'Ultimate Driving Machines', many 'Hot Hatches' are pathetic and less than Luke Warm, etc., etc.. In all the cases, they are just TITLES and not exact descriptions.
Having studied this stuff more directly and more closely than most of you, it is NOT the 'sports cars' that are driven in a rash or fast matter, in fact, they tend to be driven quite well.... it's the TOTAL NUMPTIES in the 4x4s that are the problem..... and the worst of these are the middle-aged WOMEN driving those things.
Being completely fair, the title 'sports car' was applied to VERY slow cars such as the MG Midget and Austin Healey Sprite. In general, 'sports car' just (usually) means two seats (and sometimes a 'perch' where the back seat should be) and the possibility of removing the roof.
Wrong titles are hardly a crime or else Ford are guilty of a MUCH worse offence when applying the title 'car' to their re-branded and re-marketed washing machines that they call the Mondeo......
