While I agree with almost 100% of what you say... particularly the probelms being ALL the fault of the PARENTS, we disagree at the very end.
You MISS the reason I do this stuff!
I am TRYING to act a little 'in-loco-parentis' My experience with young men is that they do NOT respect 'milk-sop' teachers and want something more MUSCULAR! Young-men's conversations are NOT mildly expressed like some form of curate's sermon! Their conversation IS ROBUST, to put it MILDLY!
I select the SAME tone as THEY do. However, you'll note that, as soon as the other writer becomes REASONABLE, I soften my approach IMMEDIATELY and you'll NEVER find me 'crowing' once they become 'open'. At THAT point, I change my tone to more like some form of 'uncle' figure.
If you doubt me, note the change in tone I am using with yourself now that we are NOT crossing swords!
I'll bet you any money you like that my STRONG comments about the death rate of kids will be better remembered than a mild admonition 'be careful, Johnny!'
You need to ask yourself why I DO this stuff! I happen to LIKE reasonable young people! Damn it, I have never grown-up, myslef!
