And there you have the reason for high insurance. he vast majority of young drivers are sensible and won't have a crash, but they're painted with the same brush as those who will.

For example, last year a young lad who had just passed his driving test crashed into the back of my van, pushing me into a car in front. The van was written off, as was his car and four people were injured. The cost of his car, approx Ł1000, my van Ł2500, car pushed into Ł1000, injury claims around Ł10000, legal fees and medical costs poentially another Ł10000. Not long running up a Ł25000 bill, and that was his cheap car and my old van. If they'd both been fresher you could double that bill.
So potentially a Ł50000 bill for a simple rear end shunt. Makes your insurance look cheap at Ł1200!
