When I passed my test at 17, a quote for a 1.4 Renault Clio was £1700 for me!! So I waited until I was 18, a year later, £1200, so I went on my dads policy, fully comp and earning no claims £750.
Turned 19, Renault was on its way out so bought myself a 1 litre Rover 200. On my dads policy, £500, still earning no claims. This is with three points for contravening a red light (don't ask!!)
When the policy runs out in June, I'll be twenty, three points, two years no claims, and would be able to get my own policy for £800 fully comp, as I am a professional van driver. However, I am allowed to stay on my dads for a third year and still earn no claims, and will lose my three points by then too. So at the end of next year, I'll be 21, no points, three years no claims, and for myself fully comp will be £500.
My advice based on this?! Get a small car, LEARN TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD!!! Keep your nose clean and it'll soon come down!! A LOT!!!
