People talk of Schumacher's contraversies, but when a British driver gets into trouble, all is forgiven

Lewis Hamilton and McLaren lied to stewards earlier in the year in an attempt to score an extra point or two - and yet he still made the top of many people's lists of greatest competitors of the year

There does seem to be an underlying hostility towards his being German as well - not "cheating ****" but "cheating GERMAN ****" as many people have posted online in various forums etc. as well as the term "Kraut" being thrown about

Whatever Schumacher did or didn't do, he was still was one of the best drivers in the sport, and his indiscrepancies were at least usually confined to the track, rather than the courtroom antics of the last few years

Even if people here dislike him, he was hired by Mercedes for a reason, and F1 is richer for having him back
