1. summer school hols are over - but this is 'in season' for holidays, so prices will be x4 and booking sites more advised. 2. I'd go 2.8 turbo diesel (fiat) if your budget allows 2.5 td's are ok - depending on your driving style. 3. Get Motorhome insurance, this will cover motorhome specific things, Europe cover, some include breakdown recovery - worth the slight extra. 4. The French are cranky on tyres - make sure you've got 4 good ones, even carry an extra spare. 5. Bulbs, warning triangles and 2 x glowing jackets are law to take in the car. Maps and Euro sat nav a nice idea. 6. Switch OFF gas bottles when traveling, expect fines on ferries and tunnels if this is not done. 7. Twin wheel (6) motorhomes are charged as lorries thru tolls- so v expensive (not sure just heard that one) 8. Try a few local trips to get used to things and guage your own rest stops. You'll find Europe Motorhome friendly, with various night stop sites, so kick back, no need to rush. 9. Purchase and hide a safe for passport/money and a gas attack alarm (sleeping gas muggings are a trend in some parts) (co2 and monoxide not a bad idea too) 10. fully sevice the vehicle - its a no brainer for a long trip. Spare parts are difficult to know what to take, but if you service it - take the old part with you. Peugeot, fiat and renault petrol engines need to take spare fuel filters. as for costs - its only money - you'll have more fun than worry about how much you spend.
