As a former D S A approved Motorcycle Instructor C B T and D A S, I can assure you that m/cyclist's are taught and encouraged to ride "left of centre" of the road typically the long leg of the letter L when used in the word SLOW painted on the carriageway. the times when this is NOT the normal riding position is in situations where the M/cyclist is filtering through traffic and where road conditions obviously dictate otherwise,heavy rainfall where there is standing water in that position (when most M/cyclists reach for there car keys ! If they tell you different tell them to read the DSA books on the subject as they are probably "born again bikers" that passed their test in 1973 and decide to ride again at 52- 53 years old !!!
