I've had similar situations several times when riding a bike. Usually car drivers taking exception to me filtering. Never had anyone catch me though, but on one occassion I remember seeing silly speeds to evade one particular moron and wondering about this as a potential defence for speeding??
One of the biggest differences for a Biker in France is the way cars actually pull over to let you through. On a busy two lane motorway you can still make excellent progress on a bike as each car will swiftly pull over for you. Never happens in the UK. A French friend told me this goes back to the war when the resistance used motorbikes to get around.
On the other hand, we have the same problem with speeding drivers in our village. On one occassion I gesticulated at a driver to slow down (he was probably doing twice the limit, he turned round and came back and started arguing that he was born in the village and could go as fast as he wanted, go figure.
