I do see your point! But I still find myself asking HOW exactly do you achieve eliminating ALL accidents?
The driving test CLEARLY is NOT the complete solution! On paper maybe but with the amount of accidents that occur on a DAILY basis, all you need to do is tune into a radio station at 6pm and you will hear of all kinds of accidents around the country! I have passed my driving test, yet I have had an accident!
So WHERE from here? We can teach people to drive, we can educate pedestrians. However the solution of removing all the pedestrians from the path of the cars is going to be a little challenging! Its not asif they actually ment to be there in the first place! How exactly do you propose to do that?
Whilst cars are on the road there will ALWAYS be accidents! No matter how much education you give someone, no matter how challenging you make tests, accidents are going to occur.
There will ALWAYS be a situation where someone / thing will stray into the road NO MATTER how much education or tutoring is provided!
Would it not be more beneficial to have the car travelling a safe(r) speed so when the occasion does arise that; for example; a pedestrian walks out infront of a car the driver (and pedestrian) have more time to react to the situation (hey - this alone MAY eliminate the accident!!! Theres one of those potential solutions you were looking for!), the car will take less time to decelerate to a stop, therefore if there is an accident the MINIMUM possible (this is largely speed dependent!) damage is done to either party? You say yourself that flesh and metal dont mix, how about reducing the rate at which they mix together thus reducing the severity of the accident?
You can REDUCE the amount of accidents, but NEVER eliminate them all together - we are all human, we all make mistakes and whilst im ALL for reducing accidents, I would rather the severity of the accidents brought down before the number of accidents so that when an accident DOES occur (and they will!), the consequenses are less servere.
As I stated earlier I would prefer a million+ prangs and minor injuries to the loss of life! A car can be replaced, wounds do heal, death is indefinate.
