Errr, Dan? You seem to be implying speed related accidents are in the vast minority. Well it seems you might need some help here,

The ranking of deaths goes as follows
1. Loss of control (34%)
2. Failing to look properly (21%)
3. Travelling too fast for conditions (17%)
4. Careless, reckless, in a hurry (17%)
5. Exceeding speed limit (14%)

So, lets look at what the Police can change eh? Well, loss of control seems to be an important one.

Loss of control: I suppose we could force everyone to have traction control, but that would be very expensive and some won't be able to afford it. It would also force many cars off the road. You could bring in a law to say all new cars have to have stability management systems (whatever they are)...but a lot of them seem to have that already.

Failing to look properly - this is incredibly hard to Police. All we can really do is put adverts all around the place (like the advert to look for motorcyclists) I suppose we could change the law to force them to have another driver in the car with them to look out for cars. It's a bit inconvienient though isn't it?...and I'm sure you'd prefer speed cameras to that idea!!

Travelling too fast for conditions - Well, do I need to say anything?

Careless, Reckless, in a hurry - Again, very very hard to Police. You can't outlaw being late, (except maybe in China) so you're always going to get people in a hurry driving cars. You can't really distinguish a driver in a hurry until they have a near miss or an accident.

Exceeding Speed limit - I've said a lot about that already.

So all in all, you'd prefer the money was spent on Traction control, forcing all drivers to have another driver beside them and putting on a load of adverts? Personally they seem like good ideas (apart from the 2nd driver one) but NONE of these ideas contradict speed enforcement, not in the slightest!

So what's your issue with speed enforcement? Surely it isn't what we've all known all along, that you simply want to speed without getting caught....surely not!
