Nice thinking Devon.

Ahhhh.... I see..... because they CHOOSE to do it, they should get low wages....

I like that.... so... because MacMillan nurses CHOOSE to do their job, then THEY should have their wages cut back to the MINIMUM wage... regardless of status or ability of training... because...as you put it.... they CHOOSE to do the job.

Similarly, brain surgeons CHOOSE the job (ohhhh, I know many of them well and I can TELL you they did... with a VENGEANCE!) so they should be paid the same wages as DUSTMEN becasue, they TOO 'choose to do the job'.

That's odd... the argument doesn't seem to be working when you look at it like that!

**************

Having family IN the 'forces' I can tell you, quite safely... those who are QUALIFIED for the forces may NOT have all the skills that are needed for Politics.... nor vice versa. The argument that BECAUSE the forces are underpaid does NOT imply that EVERYBODY should be underpaid.... it implies only ONE thing... the forces should be paid MORE...... by YOU out of YOUR TAXES! .......Funny that, I don't hear you calling for that!

******

Next, they do NOT choose THEMSELVES for the job... they go through a VERY rigorous 'vetting' procedure called AN ELECTION (unless you are Peter Mandleson... of course!). To be precise.... YOU select them. For every post, there are about TWO THOUSAND POTENTIAL APPLICANTS, so the competition is pretty damned HIGH.

Next, they do NOT get a normal set of working conditions.... the most obvious is the SACKING procedure...., they have a 'job review' every 5 years (at maximum) at which point that can be thrown out INSTANTLY with NO job security, notice period, 'final warning' and VERY litle 'redundancy'. What's even funnier is that they get thrown out by YOU... regardless of how well they MAY have done their JOB... if their PARTY is unpopular, our beloved public throw those ATTACHED to the party out... ragrdless of how good/bad the ACTUAL peson has been at the job. I know that happens in business too....

Next, as a matter of PRINCIPLE, we are SUPPOSED to pay the BEST people to work in the hardest jobs with the most money! We FAIL to do it in MANY jobs but that doesn't mean we should ALWAYS fail at that aim for some of THE Most important jobs.

Finally, if the dsalary is SO wonderful... why the hell don't YOU apply for one of the jobs? Why don't the BEST people in the country seem to be applying for the jons and we only get some of the T*SS*RS that we DO get? Dop you ever suspect thatthe LOUSY pay may be PART of the reason? I can tell you, those who WOULD be good at it tell me that they would not CONSIDER 'that job' when they'd be forced to take a MASSIVE cut in pay!

And you wonder why we get the useless bunch that we DO get!

The suggestion that paying them LESS will get BETTER applicants for the job is just TOO farcical to consider....... That would appear imply that if we cut YOUR wages, then BETTER people than YOU would apply for YOUR job.

Ohhhhh... and by the way... I bet YOU chose YOUR job.... so let's cut YOUR wages back to the minimum wages rate..... because.... just like politicians.... you CHOSE the job! Does THAT make the point?

Your WHOLE point is that we have got INTO this sad situation becasue of the politicians.... that's TRIPE... we got here because people LIKE US VOTED FOR THE WRONG ONES!
