Go further, David...

Your final line is the REASON they don't behave as they should. It's NOT the Politician's 'fault' that they are FORCED to behave badly....it's the UTTER STUPIDITY of the general PUBLIC about REALITY that is the problem!

For example...., any REALISTIC person KNOWS that we are ALL going to have to pay MUCH higher TAXES to get us out of the problems the bankers have caused. We all may HATE that idea but we don't HAVE any other choice! If the public behaved like sentient ADULTS, they'd REALISE that is what we will be FORCED to do. Damn it... what OTHER alternative IS there?

......and yet.... the politicians are TERRIFIED to TELL us this blatantly obvious 'truth'....

Why...?

... because the public have NOT thought it through and are so STUPID that they imagine there IS another way!

Can you envisage ANY politician REMAINING (or becoming) an ELECTED politician if they stated, coldly and clearly... 'this is going to cost you PERSONALLY a LOT of MONEY'......? Damien Hanlon made a statement... every baby born this year effectively arrives with Ł20,000 DEBT! That is the MINIMUM it's going to cost us!

We'd both like to believe that the public WOULD respect HONESTY.... however, we are dealing with a public who seems concerned that a husband paid for porn, didn't tell his wife (oh... that IS a surpise, isn't it!) and she didn't notice the Ł7 bill... out of a total of around FIFTY thousand for her annual claims.... how can ANYONE be surprised by THAT???? However, our 'tabloid' masses SEEM to be surprised......

The great truism still holds: 'we get the policticians we DESERVE'. Our voters DESERVE Gordon Brown because a majority of them VOTED knowing that he would be our PM before the next election!!
