[Ian] > " You seem to be making a classical error:-
1) This is a problem 2) We must do SOMETHING 3) This IS something 4) Let's do that REGARDLESS of it NOT being the SOLUTION!
That's EXACTLY how we got the joke of the 'dangerous dogs act'! "
I don't believe I'm making a classical error at all. In fact, what you've said here perfectly summarizes the current predicament in which we find ourselves right now with speed cameras !
If adherence to speed limits is the objective, then no speed camera system will ever be as effective in achieving that objective as will a vehicle speed limiter.
I'm actually much further back in this debate. I do believe that excessive speed is one of many factors that contribute to road fatalities but I have yet to be convinced the authorities have a clear understanding on how to set an appropriate speed for a road let alone how to enforce it. And that's before we look at any of the other contributing factors, such as vehicular safety and driver skills/capabilites.
