think the work by changing your homepage to their link, so nothing else will show up.

its called browser hi-jacking i think

with some pressing ctrl+alt+delete will allow you to stop the process/virus whilst you sort out removing it, if you know the file that is doing it

free programmes such as spybot search and destroy wont let programmes change your homepage without your permission or there is windows defender

there are walk throughs on how to manually remove the problem on google
