Ian, how can you suggest that an accident victim receiving compensation is a winner? The reason that I say solicitors are the only winners is exactly that - they are the ones making the money and laughing all the way to the bank. The 'victim' gets compensated for their injury but who (ultimately) pays for that? Society does! and I will qualify that statement: If the victim gets paid from the insurance company, what happens? Premiums rise. and who ends up paying? The costs are passed on to the customer so, we pay. If the company are self-insured, they will pay compensation up to a certain amount - who is paying for that? The people who buy that company's products and as claims rise, so do the company's costs which is passed on to the consumer. Commercial sensitivity would not allow me to be specific but, I could regale many, many bizarre but true stories of the lengths that some people are going to these days to make a claim - it is unbelievable but why do they do it? Because where there's blame, there's a claim! I reiterate my earlier statement - the only winners are the usurping solicitors!
