"Politicians can get MUCH more done when the public is NOT worried about something than when they ARE! It is therefore in the politician's interests (of having an easier life!) for the public to worry about DRIVEL such as 'I'm a Non-celebrity', 'Come Dancing', football and other balanities while they get ON with the REAL work!!"
I almost agree. However, consider these examples:
1) It's a typically cold and windy October day. The government bans all burning of fossil fuels.
2) Widespread famine because farming is no longer sustainable. The government bans all burning of fossil fuels.
3) It's a typically cold and windy October day. The government imposes a tax on aviation fuel.
For each one, will the public:
a) Accept the governments actions b) Reject their actions c) Not care
That's the point I'm making, and it highlights the only action we can take without immediately creating another whole set of problems; developing alternative technologies. All the arguments about climate change being man-made are largely irrelevant when you accept the inevitability that comes with living on a resource limited planet.
