And, yes, media people are prepared to manipulate the news like that. On a thorny issue on which I had knowledge, the producer put the lead interviewee under extra TV lights, kilowatts of heat, so that he sweated, while the interviewer was outside that focus,looking cool. Result was that the interviewee, despite telling the truth and following good commercial practice appeared be lying and extremely dodgy, especially after the editing process.
One of the crew explained to me that it was standard procedure to slant the case in the direction of the story, rather than the truth.
