to add to that, it really depends what you want to do with it.....the T1 is ok if you just want to doodle around on practice days and just have some fun.....but be prepared for your lad to be blown away by kids running big SP T2's.....if you are planning on MSA racing and you want to be on the pace with no-excuses equipment, you really do need a well looked after T2.
Dont get me wrong, there are still some ballistic T1's out there doing the business in clubman racing, but not in full cadet, but they are now few and far between, and any T1 on a £1000 starter kart will be nothing special you can be assured of that.......best advice is pay a few hundred quid more and get a T2 and start to understand it as they rev a lot more and the gearing strategy is different, as either way, you will end up buying a T2 eventually......best advice is also get a T2 if you dont want to get blown away on track.....but overall your biggest differentiator by far is driver experience, by a mile, he needs bum-in seat time and a truck load of it
