I would say if he already likes it then get one asap. Karts are cheaper this time of year. Then you can go wherever and whenever you want.
He is already old enough to race cadet,so if you practice now through winter(clay is open nearly everyday!)He should be ready to race come the start of the season.
As soon as he is quick enough to get his licence get him in a race.
