Hi Paulcr
My lad started about a year ago and has been doing OK & we thought the chassis is holding him back. So we got a Project One and it's taken him since the new year to get to grips with it.
Although the weather has been cr*p we were miles away from his times on the old chassis (couldn't get down to his wet times in the dry on the P1).
We had quite a few people say to us that moving to a P1 can be hard for kids to adapt BUT it will happen, and has.
Now he's got to grips with it he's literally seconds quicker than his old kart.
What I'd say though is seat time, I'd been thinking throughout the year, chassis's holding him back but when we hit walls and couldn't get times down it was easy to think chassis/engine. But gradually (after many practice sessions) we managed to get the times down.
What we did do was get a more experienced driver (my lad's 7) to go out in the chassis and give us some feedback on what it was doing and also see what the lap times were, that way - in theory - you know the kind of ballpark you can achieve (bearing in mind the driver will not be as quick as on his/her own chassis).
Rambling a bit but as kezz99 says, we'd go P1 again BUT don't think your driver's going to go straight out and drop seconds (if he does great but it's been a hard 4 months for us).
Hope this helps.
