Hi
It's good to experiment but unless you have a great deal of technical knowledge and mechanical experience my advice, if you are new to pro-karting, is not to get too side-tracked with engine performance at this early stage.
In a sense you have answered your own question -The best way to assess how your engines are performing is to get out on the track and spend time testing (The weight of the complete kart and yourself is the 'load factor'you mentioned)

As advised many times, on this site, more overall performance can be gained through good set-up of your kart than searching for engine power.
To summarize try to get your kart handling the best you can and then start to improve your engines by finding the optimum engine settings (carburetor jets etc).

Hope this posting has helped.
