I know it’s only Wikipedia, but check out “Wankel engine” and the section headed “Design”. It starts: “In the Wankel engine, the four strokes of a typical Otto cycle occur in the space between a three-sided symmetric rotor and the inside of a housing.”
Having said that, I couldn’t actually care less whether it’s called a 2, 4 or 3 and half stroke. It works rather well on a kart, end of story.
To an extent I also agree with Singers regarding future suitability of 4-stroke (including Wankel) vs. 2-stroke engines with respect to cutting emissions etc. However, even that’s only looking forward medium term at the most. Beyond that there will have to be solutions that don’t involve burning fossil fuels.
If the MSA ever does produce a White Paper to follow the Green Paper of six months ago, what’s the betting that it will not even begin to acknowledge, never mind address, such questions? It would continue to be the happy 2-stroke cocoon, ignoring anything else.
As for the fringe question of the Aixro specifically, it would continue to be disregarded precisely because it’s the ideal karting motor (right now). Imagine how many influential people in the trade would be put out by its MSA recognition. They won’t stand for it.
